What are people's favorite places to shop for fabric?

I'm quite fond of Discount Fabric Warehouse (as well as the branches) but maybe too much, since I don't venture out beyond that very often. Britex has good selection, but every time I've gone there I've had sticker shock. Usually, I go there only when I need something really specific. I've also found good bargains in the store on Mission & 16th (whose name I forget), although there wasn't much to make me want to return on a regular basis.

Where do you folks shop for fabric?

Britex has remnant sale twice a year! so, check out the remnants beforehand, then get there EARLY and go wild! 50% off the remnant price [which is already discounted].

er, also, my favorite fabric store in SF is Darlene's... on Mission Street, east side of street, between 24th and 25th Streets. Started as a little shop, grew into a larger one. Dig dig dig, poke through everything, and bargain to bring prices down. She has silk for under $7/yard, etc.

I work at Berkeley/Oakland and we have great deals all the time!!!! Trying to convice the owners to have classes upstairs....any class ideas...I'd love to create me a cool job teaching classes!!! Patterns .99 and we have a hefty amount of .99 fabrics.

Excelsior Discounts Fabric has nice selection and I found trips out to Boca Bragoon's in Hayward puts a reality check on your wallet but it is definately a stop on the lotto train.

      hasn't been mentioned
      they can be pricey
      but what an
      amazing selection!

      on broadway
      for bargains
      i go to hancock fabrics
      it's a chain store
      and when i'm
      feeling even cheaper
      thrift stores can be good
      like thriftown
      but if you really
      love fabric
      go to poppy
      i went to britex
      they have a great selection
      but they didn't
      carry stuff i've found
      at poppy!
      oh yeah and
      there's a longs drugs
      in the mall across
      from poppy that
      has an unusually
      large fabric dept.
with cool stuff at good prices
