What are ya working on now?

This topic hasn't been revisited in a while, so I thought rather than resurrecting the last thread of it I'd start it anew....
I'm mostly working on custom sewing for others BUT finally got off my butt this wk about sewing a new jacket for myself.
The pattern is an OLD Perry Ellis for Vogue (as in, from when he was alive...) that I made up as a full length coat in like 1991 that I STILL wear/ This time I'm cutting it up into a "car coat" length, taking in the very wide lapels a touch, and replacing the "what WAS he thinking?" bland patch pockets with something fun.
But the fabric....AAAHHHHHH....I'll share my find, too. At Fabric Outlet on Mission off 17th, there is this weird synthetic velvet that has been heat treated/bonded so it forms teeny minipleats. Its black, shiny velvety stuff that at a glance is kind of like striped Persian lamb. AND IT IS #$%^#ing less then $4 a yard for nearly 6o" wide!!!!!!
so of course I splurged on a really really cool print for the lining :-)
won't have pix for a while cos I'm still fitting this in between the Other People's Orders....

Right now, I've got two projects (though they're temporarily halted 'til I get my sewing table and machine set up again): making an underbust corset in a red skull paisley print, and attempting to stealthily insert more fabric into this gorgeous vintage party dress to make it fit me better.

i'm RIGHT in the middle of (well, actually almost finished with) a vest... came in for a glass of wine, then back to the sewing room...

the vest is a spectacular gold silk dupioni (reasonably priced at discount fabrics on san pablo). it's got a deep v-neck, and closes with three knot-closure, frog-like things. day before yesterday i finished, with my boyfriend's design help, cream textured cotton flowy pants with wide tie waistband in the same gold silk. we've got a fire show tomorrow. i feel a little bad for spending more time on the clothes than the choreography. alas.

I'm currently half-way through draping a fabulous bias-cut vintage dress with a cut out circle on the side, surrounded with sunbursting pleats that release into a flowing slinky knee-length skirt and an off-shoulder boatneck. I have no idea what fabric I'll make it out of, but i need it to be something that will pleat well and drape well on the bias... suggestions are welcome.

      whoops hit submit too soon!

I just finished a back-cowell top (beautifully draped, poorly sewn.. will have to redo it), and my first fully lined contoured bodice top. It had some great curving darts on the back and front, so I'll take some pictures once I get it back. :)

I'm working on a Japanese fabric quilt. I haven't made a quilt for years. My interest in Kimono got me interested in Japanese. A store I shop at had a Mother's Day sale and had factory re-conditioned quilting machines on sale for 58.00. So I figured now was a good time to start that quilting project :-)

What am I working on? Well, to start, I'm working on getting my friends to help me get a dress form made out of duct tape or paper tape. I need something to match my ready-to-wear size 28 curves. When that is done, I am working on an ankle-length winter coat in a gorgeous royal blue brocade, a white and black plaid wool dress (below-knee, princess seams), and a 1950's retro dress in light denim.

UNTIL the dress from is made, I am making my ex (cuz she asked nicely) a pair of pj pants in black silk-lined-with-flannel fabric and I'm making her daughter (cuz I love that child!!) a pair of demin bell-bottom pants and a peasant skirt in embroidered denim. I'm cutting the pj's tomorrow and working on the kid's stuff next weekend.

      thanks for the post!
I just got back from FINALLY buying the perfect buttons for my veleveteen coat.
I am mostly done w a custom aikido weapons bag to ship out this week before I can deal w/ the buttons/buttonholes and then a couple of finishing details of the coat.
I am also making a pieced quilt of over the top pink and green tones using as a motif a lizard print I bought from ebay a couple of yrs ago. The main large blocks are pieced and now I'm "in my spare time" (!?!?) working on Seminole piecework for in between rows of large blocks...

      Neat!!

I'm in finals, and sorry- I haven't used my serger yet because I've been running about madly for the last few weeks! However, my new project is a cowled, hooded, dropped waist knit dress for myself! So, there will be serger-using soon! And, hopefully, photos!

My sewing has gotten better, though lately. I am taking next quarter off from school and I am determined to make myself some clothes....

i just got a project to make a gown for the opera for my friend's GF ... she brought over a dress she got from her friend, and has given me the task of reconstructing it into something spectacular. the gown is very simple, a burgundy-red satin full-length dress, with a black crinolin under it. it's sleeveless, with laces up the back and the fabric's got a black sheen to it ... so i have something fun to start with. from there the sky's the limit. i can't wait to start sketching ideas. i will also need to give my male friend some sort of accessories to add to his black armani suit to coordinate with the gown. fun fun!

        dang
Like I wasn't having enough trouble finishing this velveteen coat...:
the buttons are big and 3-D and given the coat fabric I'm not sure corded buttonholes are going to be enough, I may have to break down and do bound buttonholes...thankfully only 2 of them...but like I need another reason to procrastinate...

          IT IS DONE!!!!!!
I f***ing finished the velveteen monster. Did sort of hybrid buttonholes (straightstitched around the buttonhole and slit it, as if doing hand-worked buttonholes, then zigzagged all the way around very tightly, and over a doubled buttonhole twist. The buttons are on and the next time the temperature drops under 60 degrees here I'll put it on and get a pic to post!!!
Mostly, in between the paid projects, working on machine piecing for a quilt I'll call Lizards Climbing Up the Wall. It MIGHT be done by the end of the year....

My Dickens Fair outfit. The skirt and bodice are almost done. I need to add the hooks on the skirt and buttonholes on the bodice. I frit longer over the thought of buttonholes than it actualy take to do them Butthen when I'm done with them I feel so light hearted, silly me. I'm making a pelerine this year instead of a cloak and have ordered some frogs on ebay. And this weekend I'll make the silk roses for my headpiece

And Yes I don't have a social life either :-)
