I found a fabulous deal and recently purchased a lightly-used Juki MO-655 2/3/4/5 thread serger! It came with a reference guide and instruction booklet, but I really need some tutorials to get the most from this machine. Does anyone have a copy of the 600-series Instructional DVD and/or Workbook that are usually supplied free with new purchases of Juki Sergers? If so, do you consider them worthwhile investments... and would you be willing to sell or lend them?
This is my third sewing machine after a regular straight lockstitch and a semi-industrial zig-zag walking foot machine, so I'm familiar with sewing basics, but have never used a serger before. Can anyone recommend other educational sources such as favorite books or local bay-area classes? Thanks!

Thu, April 24, 2008 - 2:55 PMI can't vouch for it yet, because I'm enrolled :-) However I have only the most wonderful things to say about the Cañada College Fashion Department and their awesome instructors.

I have owned a White 2900 for almost a year now and I dove right in with it and am loving it. But I'm taking this course to learn how to max out its capabilities and improve my skills.
Join this group & ask if anyone has a link to a PDF workbook. There's likely a Juki-specific group out there, too. Sergers-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
Honestly I can't say enough about Cañada College. I'm taking my first sewing classes (ever) - Tailoring and Trouser Construction - this semester and I'm chomping at the bit to enroll for Fall Semester. Ronda Chaney is my hero! I'm making a Le Smoking (Burda 7986) for my Tailoring Project, using the custom method. I'm 2 sleeves away from inserting the lining. I'll post a picture soon :-) -

Fri, April 25, 2008 - 4:30 PMThanks for the suggestions!
I moved from the peninsula to the east bay a few years ago, so Cañada College might be a bit too much of a commute for my schedule. The course cost, however, sure looks appealing! Sewing is just a hobby for me so I don't think I'd be interested in enrolling in a full program, but perhaps the school has an audit option or something.
Good luck with your classes and your smoking-hot outfit. :-)
